AMENDED RETURN •○• Enmendar su Declaración

Reasons to amend a return

File an amended return if there's a change in your:

  • Filing status
  • Income
  • Deductions
  • Credits
  • Dependents
  • Tax liability

You don't need to amend your return if we:

  • Let you know that we corrected errors on your return.
  • Accept your return without certain forms or schedules or ask you to send them.

When to file an amended return

Generally, to claim a refund, you must file an amended return within 3 years after the date you filed your original return or 2 years after the date you paid the tax, whichever is later. If you filed early, count from the April tax deadline.

○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○

Members of the military

Members of the military

Special rules may apply if you served or are serving in the Armed Forces in a combat zone or a contingency operation or become hospitalized from an injury while serving.

You have at least 180 days after you leave the designated combat zone/contingency operation to file and pay taxes.

If the Service determines that you're affected by a presidentially declared disaster or a terroristic or military action, you may have up to one year after the due date of your return to file and pay taxes, depending on the deadline specified by the Service.

Taxpayers, including civilians working with the Department of Defense, must notify the IRS directly of their status for qualifying combat zone relief. For more information, see Notifying the IRS by email about Combat Zone Service.

NEW for this (2026) TAX SEASON

  • "No Tax" Deductions: New deductions have been introduced for eligible tipped workers (up to $25,000) and for "qualified" overtime pay (up to $12,500 for single filers), subject to income limits. A deduction for interest on new, U.S.-made car loans is also available.
  • Standard Deduction & Credits: The standard deduction has increased to $15,750 for single filers and $31,500 for married couples filing jointly. The maximum Child Tax Credit is now $2,200 per qualifying child.
  • Retirement Contributions: Limits for 401(k) contributions increased to $24,500 for 2026, and IRA limits increased to $7,500.
  • Cryptocurrency Reporting: Centralized crypto exchanges are now required to report transactions to the IRS and
to taxpayers using a new form, Form 1099-DA.
